Dorothy L. Fermanich, 94, Wausau, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, December 27, 2017 at Benedictine Living Community, Wausau.
She was born on the family farm in Birnamwood on February 5, 1923, daughter of the late William and Katherine (Reminger) Zarda. On October 12, 1946, she married Bernard "Bernie" Fermanich in Antigo. He preceded her in death on February 12, 1984.
Dorothy was a member of St. Michael Catholic Church in Wausau, a member of Circle 10 and the Rosary Society. She also worked at Woolworth, JC Penney, Wisconsin Valley Improvement and Marathon County SSA.
Dorothy was a very giving person and always put others before herself. She was a strong and self-sufficient woman who lived life on her own terms. She had a great sense of humor, and was often times the life of the party, being meticulously dressed for any occasion.
Dorothy was an excellent cook and baker and was known for her pumpkin bars and "dry bars". She would never let you leave her home without graciously filling a take home plate for you.
Dorothy loved decorating her home, planting her flowers and watching the deer in her yard. She was an avid Milwaukee Brewers fan and also enjoyed the Packers games.
Survivors include, two children, Jan (Chuck) Augustine and Bruce Fermanich, both of Wausau; two grandsons, Chad Augustine, Waukesha and Dan (Michelle) Augustine, Weston; great granddaughter, Callie Augustine; two sisters, Joan Egging, Kronenwetter and Sandy (Harry) Hamilton, Clintonville; and many nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents and husband, Bernie, she was preceded in death by four brothers, Lawrence, Ernest, Melvin and William Zarda; and one sister, Lorraine Schroeder.
