Dorothy A. Cournoyer, 77, died Sunday, May 22, 2016 at her home.
She was born September 10, 1938 in Auburndale, daughter to George C. and Bernice A. (Baltus) Gotz. She grew up in rural Auburndale with her parents, four sisters and grandfather Louie Gotz. She attended St. Mary's School, graduated from Columbus High School in Marshfield and then worked as a secretary at Central Cheese Company.
Following her marriage to James M. Cournoyer on March 2, 1959, they resided in Marshfield. Two sons, Mike and Rick, were born to them. In the early 1960's her husband Jim's employment with Better Hearing Aids Inc. brought them to Wausau and third son, Doug was born. She was a homemaker during these years, doing volunteer work and seamstress work in her home. Now the hands are still. The sewing machine is quiet. Her body is at rest.
She had a love for sewing, quilting, gardening, baking, reading and Fall at the hunting cabin. She was actively involved with the Pine Tree Quilters Guild, Catholic Woman's Club and her parish, Resurrection.
Dorothy is survived by her husband, Jim; three sons, Michael J. (Nancy Boatman) Cournoyer, Minneapolis, Minn., Richard G. (Claudia Smith) Cournoyer, Eau Claire and Douglas (Angela Lanning) Cournoyer, Rochester, Minn.; grandchildren, Jacob Cournoyer, Dustin (Elizabeth Gill) Cournoyer, Rachel Cournoyer, Leah Cournoyer and William Cournoyer. She is further survived by her sisters, Lucille (Martin) Wolf, Joyce (Ron) Wiskerchen, Rosemarie (Mark) Weber, all of Marshfield and Lois Hauke, Wisconsin Rapids.
She was preceded in death by her parents and brother-in-law, Allen Hauke.
The funeral Mass will be celebrated 11:00 a.m. Thursday, May 26, 2016 at the Church of the Resurrection of Our Lord Jesus Christ, Wausau. Rev. Robert Schaller will preside. Inurnment will be in Restlawn Memorial Park, Wausau. Visitation will be Thursday from 9:00 a.m. until the time of services all at the church.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Resurrection Parish, Newman High School or the charity of your choice.
