Dorothy Marie Bittner

Dorothy M. Bittner, 90, Wausau, died Thursday, August 2, 2012 at Aspirus Wausau Hospital. She was born January 1, 1922 in Mosinee, daughter of the late Gustave and Katherine (Herman) Schreiber. On May 16, 1939 she married Adolph "Sonny" Bittner at St. Patrick Catholic Church, Halder. He preceded her in death on December 8, 2002. Dorothy worked several different positions at the former St. Mary Hospital and Wausau Hospital for 25 years. After her retirement and before 2000, she took a job as a prep cook at Trails End where she was known for her sensational desserts. She was a charter member of both St. Matthew Catholic Church and the St. Jude Circle. Dorothy and her husband wintered in Arizona, took fishing trips to Canada, traveled to Alaska and enjoyed a lot of camping. She loved spending time with her family, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Survivors include her six children, Bill Bittner, Grand Rapids, Minnesota, Judy (Jim) Thurs, Wausau, Gerry (Chuck) Parsch, Wausau, Jackie (George) Schoeder, Wausau, Tom (Kay) Bittner, Mosinee, and Mike Bittner, Wausau; 18 grandchildren, 39 great-grandchildren, 3 great great-grandchildren, brother, Elmer (Elaine) Schreiber, Florida; sister, Lorraine (Laurell) Knoeck, Wausau; sister-in-law, Frances Schreiber, Mosinee, many other relatives and friends. Besides her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a daughter-in-law, Sue Bittner, great grandson, Christopher Mundt, three brothers, Edward, Walter and Arthur Schreiber, two sisters, Delphine Schantz and Marion Koppa. The funeral Mass will be celebrated 5:00 p.m. Wednesday, August 8, 2012 at St. Matthew Catholic Church, Wausau. The Rev. Robert Thorn will preside. Friends may call Wednesday from 3:00 p.m. until the time of services all at the church. The family wishes to express their sincere appreciation to the Palliative Care Unit at Aspirus Wausau Hospital and the staff at Marywood Center for all the care and compassion given to Dorothy during her stay. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund is being established. Peterson/Kraemer Funeral Home, 1302 Sixth Street, Wausau, is in charge of arrangements.
