Dorie Sturm

Dorie Sturm, 89, formerly of Wausau, died Sunday May 12, 2013 in Madison. She was born August 25, 1923, in Kennan, daughter of the late Hugo and Marie (Yauch) Kandutsch. On May 7, 1946, she married Richard "Dick" Sturm at the former St. James Catholic Church, Wausau. He preceded her in death November 19, 2008. Prior to her retirement, Dorie had been employed at 3M Corporation and Wausau Homes. Dorie loved music and was quite musically inclined, playing the guitar and piano and was also an accomplished vocalist. For 13 years, she was the choir director at St. Mary Catholic Church and sang for many weddings and funerals. Dorie and Dick were Capuchin affiliates, and after their retirement, volunteered and lived for several years at St. Anthony Retreat Center, Marathon. They served on the retreat team and assisted with daily duties at the Retreat Center. They shared a total love of nature and the outdoors by relocating to Hultman Lake in the Ogema Hills. Later, Dick and Dorie moved back to the Wausau area. After Dick's death Dorie moved to Madison to be close to family. Survivors include four sons, Jim (Mary Jo Schiavoni) Sturm, Madison, David (Theresa) Sturm, Helena, Mont., Donald (Kris) Sturm, Rhinelander and Bill (fiancAC., Linda Tvrdik) Sturm, Littleton, CO.; eight grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren; one sister, Lucy (Wayne) Syring, Aniwa; and one brother, Dr. Andrew (Nancy) Kandutsch, Surry, Maine. one brother-in-law, Gerald (Mary) Sturm, California; one sister-in-law, Jean Sturm, Wausau. Besides her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a brother, Gregor Kandutsch, a sister, Joanne, an infant daughter, Mary Jude, two brothers-in-law, Robert and Donald Sturm. The funeral mass will be celebrated at 4:00 p.m. Friday May 17, 2013 at The Church of St. Anne, Wausau. Rev. Thomas Zelinski OFM Cap. will preside. Friends may call on Friday from 2:00 p.m. until the time of services at the church. Peterson/Kraemer Funeral Home, 1302 Sixth Street, Wausau, is in charge of arrangements.
