Donald James Schmaltz, 71, Winchester, died Saturday, May 31, 2014 at Aspirus Wausau Hospital due to complications after a heart attack.
Don was born August 24, 1942 in Chicago, son of the late Edward and Elizabeth (Kuzeja) Schmaltz. On October 24, 1964 he married Jane Holder in Hobart, Indiana.
Don worked as an electrician and was a member of IBEW for 50 years. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, trapping, boating and spending time out of doors. Don also enjoyed reading and earned his bachelor degree in English by taking night classes for 10 years. He was a member of the Catholic church. Don and his wife, Jane, wintered on the southern Oregon coast.
Survivors include his wife, Jane Schmaltz, Winchester; children, Dean Schmaltz, Hawaii, Diana Schmaltz, California, and Alan (Maureen) Schmaltz, Washington State; grandchildren, Aaron and Sean Schmaltz, Hawaii, Austin and Kyle Schmaltz, Washington State.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother, Richard Schmaltz, and sister, Elizabeth Penelope Radovcic.
A private family memorial will be held at a later time.
