Donald L. Nickel

Donald L. Nickel 66, Wausau, died Saturday March 4, 2006 at his home. He was born June 28, 1939 in Wausau, son of the late Leslie and Esther (Schuetze) Nickel. On February 5, 1985 he married Diana Sydow. She survives. Donald had been employed as an Environmental Technician with Wausau Papers, Brokaw, retiring after 37 years of service. Among his favorite things to do were spending time with his grandchildren and attending their sporting events as well as being in the woods and cooking. Survivors include his wife, Diana Nickel, Wausau, his children, Patti Timken, Wausau; Jeff (Tina) Nickel, Schofield; Debbie (Steve) Spiegel, Wausau and their mother, Judith Masanz, Rib Mountain. He is further survived by step-children, Gage Thompson, Rothschild, Kelly (Gary) Shanak, Wausau, Andrew (Michelle) Thompson, Abbottsford, grandchildren, Matthew and Stephanie Timken, Holly and Jessica Nickel, Joshua and Brittany Spiegel; step-grandchildren, Andrea Thompson, Nikki, Jackie and Jon Shanak, Natasha, Samantha, Andrew Jacob and Balana Thompson; a sister, Marcy (Jim) Torney, Humboldt, Tex., and his best friends, Bert and Jack. Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Weds. March 8, 2006 at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, Wausau. Rev. John Meachen will officiate. Burial will be in Pine Grove Cemetery, Wausau. Friends may call on Tuesday from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. at the Peterson/Kraemer Funeral Home, 1302 Sixth Street, Wausau and again on Weds. from 10 a.m. until the time of services at the church.
