Donald “Don” L. Kleinschmidt, 84, died Monday, January 24, 2022 at Aspirus Wausau Hospital.
He was born October 6, 1937 in Merrill, son of the late August and Ermgard (Juedes) Kleinschmidt. On October 22, 1958 he married Nancy Schneck in Wausau and she preceded him in death on September 11, 2009.
Don graduated from Merrill High School in 1955, served his country in the United States Navy and worked for Wausau Papers. He enjoyed playing horseshoes, bowling and playing concertina in DK’s Band. He loved being a dad and grandpa and was someone who you could talk to for hours about anything. He also enjoyed spending time on Facebook, trips to the casino and attending horseraces with his son, Scott and Steve.
Survivors include his children, Janelle (Jim) Fochs and Scott (Steve Kaiser) Kleinschmidt; grandchildren, Heather (Alex) Harris-LeMaster, Kimberley (Jake) Harris, Luke (Tracy) Fochs, Travis (Sara) Fochs and Emily (Luke) Kramer; great-grandchildren, Ian, Janelle, London, Layla, Max, Addison and Nahvia; sister, Shirley Zocker, best friend, Ann and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and wife, Nancy.
Funeral services will be 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, February 2, 2022 at Peterson/Kraemer Funeral Home, 1302 Sixth Street, Wausau. Rev. Dr. Philip C. Schneider will officiate. Visitation will be Wednesday from 4:00 p.m. until the time of services all at the funeral home. Burial will be 1:00 p.m. Thursday at Restlawn Memorial Park, Wausau, with full military honors conducted by the American Legion Montgomery Plant Dudley Post No 10, Wausau.
