Donald W. Allman
79, town of Texas, passed away peacefully on Friday, August 27, 2010 at Aspirus Hospice House, Wausau, surrounded by his family following a brief illness with Guillain-Barre'.
He was born September 9, 1930 in Marshfield, son of the late Harold and Minnie (Stuhr) Allman. On November 5, 1955, he married Elizabeth Thorn at St. Michael Catholic Church, Wausau. She survives.
Don was a veteran of the United States Airforce and was a member of the American Legion Montgomery Plant Post No. 10, Wausau. For 35 years, he worked as a Draftsman for the former Marmet Corp., Wausau and went on to work for Modu-Line Windows, Wausau for 1 A½ years until retirement.
In 1995, Don was Citizen of the Year of the town of Texas. He was a member of the Interchurch Dartball League and a long time member of St. Michael Catholic Church. Don was very active with his children in the 4-H program and was manager for 4-H softball teams. Among his favorite pastimes, he enjoyed going to the casino, bird watching, hunting, fishing and gardening. Don also had the opportunity to build his own home with his five sons by his side. He will always be remembered for his wonderful display of Christmas lights at his home for all his family, neighbors and many friends to enjoy. Don was a kind man with a big heart and could strike up a conversation with people whether he knew them or not.
Survivors include, his wife, Elizabeth "Beth" Allman, Wausau; eight children, Jeff (Jean) Allman, Sheboygan, Kathy (Dave) Koehler, Sue (Barry) Zastrow, John (Paulette) Allman, Joe (Cheryl) Allman, Tom (Cindy Sann) Allman, all of Wausau, Rick (Michelle) Allman, Merrill and Judy (Dale Wittwer) Allman, Wausau; 10 grandchildren, Nathan (Kelly) Zastrow, Matt and Erin Zastrow, Eric and Emily Koehler, Cody Koval, Amanda and Joshua Allman, Jason (Kara) Allman and Chris Allman; eight great grandchildren, Katelyn, Layne and Easton Zastrow, Zoe and Alexis Martell, and Kaitlyn, Ashlyn and Evelyn Allman; one brother, Harlan (Betty) Allman, Wausau; three sisters, Arlene (Kenneth) Baumann, Florida, Shirley (Donald) Kettner, Wausau and Beverly (Lloyd) Swanson, Minnesota; and many nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by an infant son, Jerry; two sisters, Marion King and Janalee Gutowski; and one brother, Harold Allman Jr.
The funeral mass will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, August 31, 2010 at St. Michael Catholic Church, Wausau. Rev. William Grevatch will preside. Burial will be in St. Michael Cemetery, Wausau, with full military honors conducted by the American Legion Montgomery Plant Post No. 10, Wausau. Friends may call Monday from 4:00 until 8:00 p.m. at Peterson/Kraemer Funeral Home, 1302 Sixth Street, Wausau and again Tuesday from 10:00 a.m. until time of services at the church. There will be a prayer service at 7:30 p.m. Monday evening at the funeral home.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff at Aspirus Hospice House and the staff of 6 North at Saint Joseph's Hospital for the wonderful care and support given to Donald during his illness.
