Dawn R. Kohn, 81, Wausau, died Tuesday, December 9, 2013 at Aspirus Wausau Hospital. She was born November 2, 1932 in Wausau, daughter of the late Jerry and Amelia (Abraham) Witter. On August 30, 1952, she married Joseph Kohn at The Church of St. Anne, Wausau. He survives. In her younger years, Dawn worked at St. Mary's Hospital in Wausau and also for local area doctors. She then went on to work for the Wausau Board of Education for 10 years. Dawn held various positions for the City of Wausau throughout her life, retiring as City Treasurer and Controller. Dawn was very active in her community. She was past President of the Wisconsin Finance Officers, Treasurers and Clerks; past President of the League of Women's Voters; a member of the Wausau Stunt Night Club; a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary Burns Post No. 388, Wausau for more than 30 years; and was proudly the first woman to run for Mayor in the City of Wausau. Dawn was a charter member of St. Matthew Catholic Church. Among her favorite pastimes, she enjoyed dancing and was a member of the Central Wisconsin Country Dancers. She also enjoyed going for long walks and was very health conscious. Dawn was diagnosed with breast cancer years ago and was amazed at all the help and support from her friends, co-workers and the community. She was a proud breast cancer survivor. Most of all, she loved spending time with her family. She loved to travel and went on three Caribbean tours with her husband, Joseph. She will be deeply missed by her family and friends. Survivors include, her husband, Joseph Kohn, Wausau; two daughters, Barbara (Richard) Rausch, Wausau and Lynn (Ronald) Klinkert, Maple Grove, MN; three grandchildren, Richard (Sara) Rausch, Jonathan Klinkert and Tracy (Alex) Warmka; seven great-grandchildren, Raelynn, Ruby Dawn, Sophie, Hannah, Ben, Ella and Adeline; three siblings, Connie (Elmer) Dellenbach, Wausau, Harry Witter, Wausau and Lee (Mary Ellen) Witter, Orange Park, FL; and many nieces and nephews. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by 16 siblings. The funeral mass will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, December 13, 2013 at St. Matthew Catholic Church, Wausau. Rev. Robert Thorn will preside. Burial will be at Restlawn Memorial Park, Wausau. Friends may call on Thursday from 4:00 until 8:00 p.m. at Peterson/Kraemer Funeral Home, 3400 Stewart Avenue, Wausau and again on Friday from 10:00 a.m. until time of services at the church. There will be a prayer service at 7:00 p.m. Thursday evening at the funeral home, followed by a service conducted by the VFW Auxiliary, Wausau.
