David Vachowiak, 89, Wausau passed away peacefully on Tuesday, September 24, 2024 at The Gardens in Wausau.
He was born August 30, 1935 in Wausau, son of the late Stanley and Mary (Brandt) Vachowiak. He married Sandra Bielke on April 29, 1967. She preceded him in death in 2020.
Dave will be dearly missed by his family, friends, and beloved cat Mama Mia. He was known for his kindness and compassion which he generously shared with everyone he met.
He worked at Wausau Hospital for many years and as a Deputy Coroner for Marathon County. He also worked as a crossing guard at Thomas Jefferson Elementary School.
Dave was a proud veteran and served In the Air Force. He spent time in the 1960s and 70s coaching hockey, baseball, and football. As a coach he was known as “Doc”.
Survivors include his daughter, Cherie Vachowiak, Oakland, CA, 1 nephew, Dan (Shelley) and 6 nieces, Emily (Al), Beverly, Mary, Karen (Del), Catherine, Anne and numerous grandnephews and
grandnieces.
A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, November 8, 2024 at Covenant Community Presbyterian Church, Weston. The Rev. Jim Bates will officiate. Burial will be in Pine Grove Cemetery, Wausau. Visitation will be held from 9:30 a.m. until the time of services at the church.
