David P. Opper
66, Wausau died Friday, February 5, 2010 under the care of Comfort Care and Hospice Services at Aspirus Wausau Hospital.
He was born August 28, 1943 in Birnamwood, son of Adeline (Stoltz) Opper and the late Edward Opper. On November 26, 1964 he married Mary Jane Miller at St. Florian Catholic Church, Hatley. She survives.
For more than 22 years David was the owner/operator of Cheers Bar in Wausau. He also worked at Marathon Electric, Hatley Veneer and Wausau Homes. David will be forever remembered by his caring, compassionate, and loving ways. He was a man of many words and solutions for every matter at hand. David was a shoulder to lean on, cry on, and would pick you up whenever you were in need. He knew just what to say to put a smile on your face or make you laugh for really no reason at all.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Jane Opper, Wausau, his mother, Adeline Opper, Birnamwood, two grandchildren, Ashley (Mike Lewitzke) Opper, Hatley and Tabatha Opper, Wausau, one great grandson, Keeton Opper, three sisters, Arlene (Orville) Henderson, Dolores Wood and Linda Opper, all of Birnamwood, two brothers, Richard (Karen) Opper, Phlox and James (Barbara) Opper, Birnamwood, along with many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Besides his father he was preceded in death by one son Tracy Opper on December 5, 1988.
The funeral mass will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, February 9, 2010 at The Church of the Holy Name of Jesus, Wausau. The Rev. Gerald Pehler O.F.M. Cap. will preside. Entombment will be in Memorial Chapel Mausoleum, Restlawn Memorial Park, Wausau. Friends may call on Monday from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Peterson/Kraemer Funeral Home, 1302 Sixth Street, Wausau and again on Tuesday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of services at the church. There will be a parish vigil service at 7:30 p.m. Monday evening at the Sixth Street funeral home.
