David J. Martin

David John "Marty" Martin, 63, died Wednesday, March 19, 2014 at Wausau Manor Nursing Home while battling cancer. It was also evident to many that he had a broken heart after losing his wife, Kathy. David was born April 14, 1950 to Joseph and Virginia (Bradfish) Martin. His childhood was spent at Holy Name Catholic School and he graduated from Newman. David graduated with a BBA from University of Wisconsin, Madison. His career included work at Schuette Building Centers, Lumbermen's Underwriters Associated and he retired from Church Mutual in Merrill in 2013. In 1974 David met his wife, Kathleen M. (Boehm) Martin, while they both worked for Schuette Building Centers. On August 28, 1976 Kathy & Dave were married at Holy Name of Jesus Catholic Church. On October 23, 1985 Kathy gave birth to their son, Douglas John. In December 2006 Kathy was diagnosed with breast cancer and passed away on July 19, 2012. David enjoyed life, he was a good father, husband, brother and friend. David's interests included Wausau Community Theatre, Grand Theater Staging, Chairperson of Holy Name Summerfun, and Holy Name Parish and Finance Council. He also enjoyed woodworking, being a handy-man and having a tool for everything. "Have tools will travel." David is survived by Douglas, his son. He is further survived by his siblings: Donna Martin, Danville, KY, Duane (Mary) Martin, Tomahawk, Diane (Randy) Gurholt, Wausau, Darlene Martin, Wausau and Doris Martin, Wausau; his mother-in-law: Joan (Hornung) Boehm and brother-in-laws: Glen (Kathy) Boehm, Mosinee, Mark Jr., Wausau and sister-in-laws Jean (Gregg) Laffin, Ioxinia, and Lois (Reg) Konkol, Hatley, 12 nieces and nephews, 4 great-nieces and nephews. David was preceded in death by his wife, Kathy, his parents, Joseph and Ginny Martin, his father-in-law: Mark Boehm Sr., and paternal and maternal grandparents. The funeral Mass will be celebrated 7:00 pm Friday March 21, 2014 at Holy Name of Jesus Catholic Church, Wausau. Rev. Thomas Huff will preside. Burial will be in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Kronenwetter on Saturday. Friends may call on Friday from 3:30 pm until the time of Mass all at Holy Name Church.
