David D. Herzog

David D. Herzog, 85, of Rothschild, was called home to Jesus on Friday, January 31, 2025.  Dave was born to David and Katherine Herzog on October 29, 1939 in Chicago, Illinois.  He is loved and cherished by his wife of 57 years, Mary; son, Paul (Katie) Herzog; daughter, Cindy (Eugene) Gan; grandchildren, Christopher, Delilah, and Bradley Herzog and John Paul, Maximilian, Benedict, and Gabriel Gan; brother, Gerald (Sharon) Herzog; and many nieces and nephews.

Dave proudly served in the U.S. Army, which included a year in Turkey during the Cuban Missile Crisis.  He loved international travel to over 30 countries.  For the International Department at Northcentral Technical College, he was a host parent for 50 international students.  Travel included visits to 11 homes of students he hosted, and attending student weddings in Turkey and Germany.  Dave’s cooking skills were exemplary, and he met the challenge of cooking with Halal restrictions during Ramadan and for a variety of ethnicities.

He enjoyed a full and rewarding work life as an electrical engineer.  Dave built a cottage in northern Wisconsin on Currie Lake and spent many hours enticing the fish to bite.  Many students received lessons in fishing, kayaking, and chopping wood.

The funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, February 7, 2025 at St. Mark Catholic Parish, 602 Military Road, Rothschild, with Rev. Eric Mashak presiding.  Visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m. until the time of service, all at the church.  Burial will follow in Restlawn Memorial Park with military honors accorded by American Legion Montgomery-Plant-Dudley Post #10.
