David B. Halkoski

David B. Halkoski 78, Weston died Wednesday, December 30, 2009 at St. Clare's Hospital, Weston. He was born March 31, 1931 in Wausau, son of the late Sylvester and Bernice (Kozlowski) Halkoski. On October 22, 1952, he married Roberta Vaughn at St. Michael Catholic Church, Wausau. She survives. Prior to his retirement Dave had been employed for 43 years at Wausau Papers, Brokaw. His claim to fame there was not missing a single day of work in those 43 years. David and his wife owned and operated Bert and Dave's Bar in Hatley for 12 years and their softball team were well known winners in their league. After retiring, the Halkoski's spent several winters in Sun City West, Arizona. He was an avid sports fan, following the Packers, Braves and Brewers. He was also a lifetime member of the Knights of Columbus, Sacred Heart Council No. 4628, Schofield. Survivors include his wife Roberta (Vaughn) Halkoski, Weston, three children, Dennis (Paula) Halkoski, Weston, Diane (Alan) Christensen, Ringle and Debra (Grant) Ketchum, Rib Mountain, seven grandchildren, Jacob and Matthew Christensen, April, Luke and Benjamin Halkoski, Rebecca and Micheala Ketchum, and six great grandchildren. The funeral mass will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, January 2, 2010 at St. Florian Catholic Church, Hatley. Rev. Joseph Rafacz will preside. Burial will be in the parish cemetery. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at the Peterson/Kraemer Funeral Home, 1302 Sixth Street, Wausau and again on Saturday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of services at the church. There will be a parish and Knights of Columbus rosary service Friday at 7:00 p.m. at the Sixth Street funeral home. In lieu of flowers a memorial is being established.
