Darrel W. Johnsen
61, Wausau, died Tuesday, June 15, 2004 at Community Health Care Wausau Hospital.
He was born July 24, 1942 in Duluth, Minnesota, son of the late Walter and Mary (Anderson) Johnsen. On November 24, 1984, he married Frances Gantner at Holy Name of Jesus Church, Wausau. She survives.
He was a Veteran of the US Navy serving during the Vietnam War.
Darrel worked for General Heating Company in Duluth, the Weston Power Plant as a welder, was shop manager for Wausau Body & Hoist and retired from Central Valley Petroleum Company as a service technician. He was a member of the National Rifle Association and the North American Fishing Organization. Besides being known as a "Jack of All Trades", he was an avid hunter, and fisherman. The most precious thing to him was being with and teaching his grandchildren. Darrel often took his boat, known as "Just One More," on the Great Lakes. With his brother, they entered tournaments and fished for Salmon and Brown Trout on Lake Michigan. In addition to fishing tournaments, he loved spending many hours taking family and friends Salmon fishing. Along with his wife, they took the camper to their permanent campsite at Ahnapee River Trails Camp Ground in Algoma.
Besides his wife, Frances Johnsen, Wausau, survivors include three sons, Douglas (Mary Jo) Johnsen, North Branch, Minn. and their daughter, Kelly Reed, Darren (Darlin) Johnsen, Duluth, Minn. and their son, Joseph, Todd Brodjeski, Newark, Delaware; one daughter, Tammy (Jay) Newman, Wausau and their children, Heather and Nathan; two sisters, Judy (Phil) Holbeck, Two Harbors, Minn. and Marisue (Lonnie Gartamaker) Toelcke, Plymouth, Minn. and one brother, Ralph (Marlene) Johnsen, Duluth, Minn.
Funeral services will be at 4:00 p.m. Saturday, June 19, 2004 at Peterson/Kraemer Funeral Home, 3400 Stewart Ave., Wausau. Friends may call from 1:30 p.m. Saturday until the time of services at the Stewart Avenue funeral home. Military Honors will be conducted immediately following the services.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the American Heart Association.
