Darlo M. (Graveen) Akey

Darlo Mae Akey, 80, passed away peacefully on Sunday, December 6, 2020, at her home in Weston, Wisconsin.

She was born August 26, 1940, in Wausau, Wisconsin to the late Arthur and Arline (Hickman) Graveen.  She was a 1959 graduate of Wausau High School.  On October 29, 1960 she married John J. Akey of Wausau, WI.  They were married for 41 years.

Darlo worked at the former Associated Loan for many years and went on to work for Associated Bank, serving in various positions for them until her retirement.  Some of her favorite pastimes included sewing, spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren and taking her yearly trips to Florida with Lori.  She also enjoyed spending time with her canine pals, Carter, William and Henry.

Darlo is preceded in death by her husband John, sisters, Marjorie (Graveen) Archie, Carol (Graveen) Zastrow, and Nancy (Graveen) Loy.

Survivors include her children, daughter, Sara (Bruce) Hogan, Peosta, IA., her son John (Nancy) Akey, Perrysburg, OH.,  daughter, Lori (Mark) Plunkett, Weston, WI., four grandchildren, Andrew (Alyssa) Schmidt, Peosta, IA, Brittany (Ryan) Besler, Farley, IA, Emily Akey, Perrysburg, OH., and Ryan Akey, Perrysburg, OH, four great-grandchildren,  Parker Schmidt, Riley Schmidt, Treydyn Besler, Ophelia Besler, her brother, DuWayne (Bonnie) Graveen, Rib Mountain, WI,  brother- in-law, Charles (Nancy) Loy, brother-in-law, Mike (Cheryl) Akey, Arbor Vitae, WI, and a large extended family of nieces, nephews, and cousins.  She is also survived by a grand-Dog Henry Plunkett.

Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, December 11, 2020 at the Peterson/Kraemer Funeral Home, 1302 Sixth Street, Wausau.  The Rev. Justin Smoot will officiate.  Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. until the time of services all at the Sixth Street funeral home.  Social distancing guidelines will be in place as well as facemasks required by everyone who attends.  Online condolences may be expressed at www.petersonkraemer.com
