Daniel P. Strehlow, 71, of Weston, passed away peacefully on Thursday, May 7, 2026, at the Hospice House in Wausau, surrounded by the love of his family.
Dan was born on November 15, 1954, in Wausau, the son of Gerald and Joyce (Heller) Strehlow. He spent his life in the area he proudly called home. On May 14, 1977, he was united in marriage to Margaret Johnson at Holy Name Catholic Church in Wausau. Together they shared nearly 49 years of marriage.
For many years, Dan was a familiar and respected presence on the basketball courts of the Wausau area as a referee. His love of the game extended beyond the whistle—he was a longtime member of the YMCA, where he enjoyed noon basketball games, workouts and visiting with friends.
Dan was an avid sports fan and enjoyed watching the Brewers, Packers, Bucks, and Badgers games. Him and Margaret could often be found rooting for the home team on the sidelines of local high school basketball and football games.
Dan is survived by his loving wife, Margaret Strehlow of Weston; his children, Shawn (Meagan) Strehlow, and their children, Owen and Sydney. Ryan (Jackie) Strehlow and their children, Rae Ann, Jordon, and Jemma. He is further survived by his siblings, Randy Strehlow of Superior, Steve (Linda) Strehlow of Rib Mountain, and Karen (Chris) Kyle of Rib Mountain; as well as many nieces and nephews who will remember him fondly.
Dan is also survived by his in-laws: Don and Jan Johnson, Richard and Bonnie Johnson, David and Carol Johnson, Mary and Tom Schepp, Sharon and Gary Boushley, and Rose LeMay, all of whom held a special place in his life.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister-in-law, Cheryl Strehlow.
A Memorial Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, May 14, 2026 at St. Michael Catholic Church, Wausau with the Rev. Tom Lindner presiding. Burial will be at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Kronenwetter. Visitation will be held on Thursday from 9:00 a.m. until the time of service.
