Daniel H. Ovel

Daniel "Dan" H. Ovel 63, Wausau, died Thursday, October 7, 2010 at Aspirus Wausau Hospital. He was born April 1, 1947, in Wausau to Leroy and Ruth (Bean) Ovel. On June 18, 1977, he married the love of his life, Ann Barr in Dayton, Ohio. She survives. Dan proudly served his country as a veteran of the United States Airforce, retiring as a Master Sergeant. Following retirement, Dan and his family settled in Wausau, where he recently retired from Northcentral Technical College. Among his favorite pastimes, he enjoyed taking care of his family, spoiling his grandchildren, traveling and cheering for the Green Bay Packers. Survivors include his loving wife and friend, Ann Ovel, Wausau; his father, Roy Ovel, Wausau; three children, Jenny (Joe) Bonke, Wausau, Suzie Ovel and Gary Ovel, both of Seattle; three grandchildren, Jared, Justin and Jenna Bonke; three sisters, Pat (Jack) Wunsch, Barb (Bob) Pfaff and Kathy Johnson, all of Wausau; his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Bob and Mary Barr, Dayton, Ohio; two brothers-in-law, Charlie (Louise) Barr, Yakima, Wash. and Richard (Shirley) Barr, Dayton, Ohio; one sister-in-law, Jan (Kostas) Zafiropolous, Dayton, Ohio; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his mother, Ruth Ovel; an infant brother, Thomas; and an infant sister, Linda. The funeral mass will be celebrated at Noon Monday, October 11, 2010 at St. Matthew Catholic Church, Wausau. Rev. James Schaefer will preside. Burial will be in Restlawn Memorial Park, Wausau with full military honors conducted by the Veterans of Foreign Wars Burns Post No. 388, Wausau.
