Cynthia “Cindy” (Colrud) Stanislawski September 20, 1953 – April 11, 2025
Cynthia “Cindy” Stanislawski, of Stevens Point, passed away peacefully after a courageous four-month battle with cancer. She was surrounded by the love of her family—just as she had surrounded them with love throughout her life.
Cindy was born on September 20, 1953, at Yokosuka Naval Base in Japan, to the late Jerome Colrud and Mary Jane (Kluck) Colrud. She is survived by her two daughters, Sara Jane Bartelt and Jessica Katcher; her cherished and only grandchild, Dylan Bartelt; and her brothers, Mark (Barbara) Colrud and Dean (Gail) Colrud. She was preceded in death by her parents and her infant sister, Leilani.
Cindy grew up in Stevens Point, where she attended local schools and worked in various roles throughout the community. But her most treasured role—and the greatest joy of her life—was being a mother and grandma. She poured her heart and soul into raising her daughters, teaching them the values of love, empathy, compassion, generosity, and the importance of having a sense of humor. Her unconditional love and bond with Dylan was one of the most beautiful parts of her life, and one of the greatest gifts she gave him.
Affectionately called “Cinders” by her brothers, Cindy was a true free spirit—the kind of person everyone could turn to. A self-described hippy, she found beauty in simplicity and had a deep love of music, especially from the '70s—including disco. Her kitchen table was a constant gathering place for friends and family, filled with laughter, stories, and the comfort of connection. She had a gift for making everyone feel welcome, heard, and valued.
In her final months, Cindy was cared for lovingly at home by her daughters, whose devotion and tenderness reflected the very lessons their mother had lived and taught. Their presence brought her peace and comfort, and their love was unwavering through every moment.
The family would like to express their deepest admiration and heartfelt gratitude to Dr. Thomas Oliver and the Aspirus Cancer Center, Aspirus Home Hospice Care, and the staff at Aspirus Hospice House in Wausau, where Cindy spent her final weeks. The care they provided—to both Cindy and her family—was immeasurable. Cindy’s family is forever grateful for their kindness, grace, and the dignity they ensured during her final chapter. We love each and every one of you!
At Cindy’s request, no service will be held (she hated funerals). A private family burial will take place this summer at Guardian Angel Cemetery in Stevens Point—when the sky is blue, the sun is shining, and the flowers are in full bloom.
To honor Cindy’s life and the love she received in her final weeks, the family invites donations or volunteer support to the Aspirus Hospice House in Wausau, to help support other families walking a similar path. In addition, because of Cindy’s lifelong love of animals—whom she treated like children—donations to a local animal shelter in her memory would be deeply meaningful.
Cindy leaves behind a legacy of kindness, strength, laughter, and love. She will be missed more than words can say, but we take comfort in knowing she is now reunited with her parents and the many loved ones she lost along the way. There is peace in knowing, “We all go home.”
Mom… “We love you, a bushel and a peck, a bushel and a peck, and a hug around the neck.”
Thank you for loving us unconditionally to the moon and back. —Sara, Jessy, and Dylan
