Cynthia "Cindy" L. Graun

Cynthia “Cindy” Lynn Graun, 66, passed away on Friday, September 11, 2026, at Aspirus Wausau Hospital after a long and courageous battle with cancer.

Born on September 5, 1960, Cindy was the daughter of Harold and Bessie (Sima) Nikkila. She was born and raised in Price County Wisconsin, where she was instilled with strong family values and a love for the outdoors. After graduating high school, Cindy moved to the “big city” of Wausau where she began her career, working for 31 years at Wausau Insurance/Liberty Mutual and later 13 years at Aspirus. During that time, she found the love of her life which led to 44 wonderful years of marriage with her husband, Thomas “Tom” Graun. Together they built a life centered on faith, family, and lasting memories moving to Athens, Wisconsin.

Cindy was a woman of faith, quiet kindness, and deep devotion to her family and friends. She found joy in life's simple pleasures and treasured spending time with loved ones. Cindy was ready to travel north or south at a minute’s notice to visit her children or spend time outdoors, and she was always planning the next holiday get together. She will be remembered for her warm heart, gentle spirit, and unwavering love for those around her. Cindy was also a faithful member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Milan, where she served as a Sunday School teacher for many years and shared her Christian faith with the children of the congregation.

Cindy had a special love for music and enjoyed playing the piano in her home. Family often found her playing those lasting melodies that filled the house, reflecting the warmth and peace she brought to those around her.

She is lovingly survived by her husband, Tom Graun; her son, Matthew Graun (Mindy) of Wausau, WI; her daughter, Kimberly Letlebo (Jason) of Almond, WI; and her cherished granddaughter, Addison Letlebo.

She is further survived by her brothers- and sisters-in-law, Jim (Sharon) Graun, Den (Kris) Graun, Ken (Mary) Graun, Sandy (Bob) Oelrich, and Dan (Sandy) Graun, along with many beloved nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends.

Cindy was preceded in death by her parents, Harold and Bessie (Sima) Nikkila, and her brothers- and sisters-in-law, Dennie (Candy) Nikkila, Ken (Nancy) Nikkila, and Rick Nikkila.

Cindy's family will remember her for her steadfast faith, dedication to family, strong work ethic, and appreciation for life's simple blessings. Though she will be deeply missed, the love she shared and the memories she created will remain forever in the hearts of all who knew her.

A funeral service for Cindy will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Friday, September 25, 2026, at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Milan, Wisconsin, with Rev. Michael Mathey officiating.
