Conrad, "Coonie" John Heil, 89, Wausau, WI died Wednesday, December 11, 2024 at Wausau Manor.
He was born January 31, 1935, in Marathon, WI son of the late Frank and Margaret (Salzman) Heil. On May 12, 1956, he married Doris Lemmer, his high school sweet heart, at St. Mary Catholic Church in Marathon WI. She survives and they were married 68 years.
Conrad worked at Marmet as an inspector for 39 years, but his passion was his farm. He loved his land and all it provided. They had cows, pigs, chickens, and a variety of animals over the years, including the hated geese. We all remember milking cows, picking rocks, bailing hay, pulling mustard weed, husking corn, and all the other farm chores. One of Conrad’s favorite chores was taking the grandkids on 4 wheeler rides.
Conrad enjoyed woodworking his entire life. He built their home for his wife and family, including all wood cabinets and all of the gadgets needed to make things work. He liked putzing with his equipment and cars in the basement and the doghouse. Later he built clocks, bird houses, whirligigs, and other gifts for his kids and grandkids.
In his spare time Conrad loved hunting and watching the deer and turkeys. He also was a big fan of fishing muskies at Plum Lake and the annual Canadian fishing trip.
Survived by five children Jeff (Judy Wenckaitis) Heil, Linda (Jeff) Olcott, Theresa Becker, Bob (Dodi Grulkoski) Heil, all of Rib Mountain, WI. Jim (Olga Kireeva) Heil, of Lake Jackson, TX. Also daughter in law Debra (Gary) Heil. And 12 grandkids, and 11 great grandkids. Sole surviving sibling Ted Heil, Oconomowoc, WI. Preceded in death by son Gary W Heil.
The funeral Mass will be celebrated 10:00 a.m. Monday, December 23, 2024 at Holy Name of Jesus Catholic Church, Wausau, WI. Rev. Samuel Martin will preside. Visitation will be Monday at 9:00 a.m. until the time of services, with lunch to follow.
