Clifford J. Hopperdietzel

Clifford "Cliff" J. Hopperdietzel 69, Athens died Sunday, May 22, 2011. He was born August 19, 1941 in Athens, son of the late Harold and Cyrilla (Peters) Hopperdietzel. On June 8, 1968 he married Nancy Riehle at St. Anthony Catholic Church, Athens. She survives. Cliff graduated Athens High School in 1960 and began his career at Wausau Homes which lasted over 32 years. He was also a supervisor for the town of Halsey for more than 16 years. Some of his favorite pastimes included fishing, bowling, polka dancing, woodworking and playing cards, especially couple's sheep head. Cliff loved spending time at their trailer at Northforest Campgrounds in Tomahawk. Cliff proudly served his country in the United States Army and was also a member of the American Legion Chapman Belter Post #4, Athens. Survivors include his wife, Nancy Hopperdietzel, Athens, two sons, Kenneth (Dana) Hopperdietzel, Wausau and Alan Hopperdietzel, Athens, two grandchildren, Haley and Cole Hopperdietzel and two brothers, Lyle (Geraldine) Hopperdietzel, Wausau and Jerome Hopperdietzel, Athens along with many cousins, nieces and nephews. Besides his parents he was preceded in death by his sister, Marilyn Raasch and niece Janet Raasch. The funeral mass will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. Friday, May 27, 2011 at St. Anthony Catholic Church, Athens. The Very Rev. Charles Hiebl will preside. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Athens. Friends may call on Thursday from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Peterson/Kraemer Funeral Home, Athens and again on Friday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of services at the church. There will be a parish vigil service at 7:45 p.m. Thursday evening at the Athens funeral home. Online condolences may be expressed at www.petersonkraemer.com The family wishes to express their sincere appreciation to all the doctors, nurses and staff in the Aspirus Cardiac ICU and the MEDEVAC Transport Team for their outstanding care they provided him and a special thank you to the Athens Ambulance Crew for always being there for Cliff and his family whenever you were called upon.
