Clarence R. Wagner

Clarence Raymond Wagner, age 82, of Wausau, passed away Monday, May 21, 2012 at home. He was born March 7, 1930 in Wausau to the late Andrew and Mary Wagner. He married Alice (Vetter) Wagner on June 14, 1958 at St. Mary Catholic Church in Marathon. Clarence led a full and joyful life. While a student at Wausau Senior High, he was an Eagle Scout and later served as a Scout leader. He proudly served our nation in the 82nd Airborne as a paratrooper. He worked 40 years for General Telephone (later Verizon) as a regional planning engineer. Clarence loved the outdoors and passed that love of camping and canoeing to his children. He loved to spend time in his workshop and made furniture for his children and grandchildren. Clarence was a man of deep faith, whose life revolved around St. Anne's Parish. He spent forty years working at the Parish fish fry, bingo, lectoring and served on the School Board. He also made hard wood crosses for thousands of people, including the last 16 graduating classes of Dominican High School in Whitefish Bay WI. Clarence was also a member of the Knights of Columbus and the St. Thomas Moore Men's Club. Clarence is survived by his wife Alice, his five children Susan (Keith)Imm, Wausau, Andrew (Renee Stangl), Middleton, Mark (Yvonne), Whitefish Bay, Lisa Hamilton, Wausau and Rebecca (Peter) Oettinger, Baraboo, and grandchildren Valerie, Virgina and Vivian Wagner, John and Katie Wagner, Abby , Jenny and Matthew Hamilton, and Sophia and Cecilia Oettinger. He was preceded in death by his brothers Donald and Melvin and in laws Matthew and Helen Vetter. The Mass of Christian Burial will be held 11:30 a.m. Friday, May 25, 2012 at the Church of St. Anne, Wausau. Burial will be at St. Mary Parish Cemetery in Marathon Wisconsin. Friends may call Friday from 9:00 a.m. until the time of services all at the church. Memorials may be directed to Newman Catholic Schools Fund.
