Chester "Chet" J. Golomski
88, Wausau, died Thursday, February 24, 2011 at Our House Assisted Living, Wausau.
He was born and named Czeslaw Golomski, October 20, 1922 in Rosholt, son of the late John and Mary (Kleman) Golomski. On May 31, 1952, he married Valeria Lenard at Langley AFB Virginia She preceded him in death on April 21, 2002.
Chester served in the 8th Air Force as a ball turrit gunner on the Flying Fortress B17 in World War II. He was a Master Sergeant with the United States Airforce for 20 years. Following his military career, he worked for the former James River Corp., Wausau, until his retirement. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Burns Post No. 388, Wausau and a member of the Knights of Columbus. Among his favorite pastimes, he enjoyed playing cards, both wood carving and woodworking, fishing, hunting, spending time up at the family cottage in Harrison Hills and he loved music. Chester was also an avid bowler on the Knights of Columbus bowling league. One of the many things that will be remembered about Chester was his ability to connect with others with a good hand shake.
Survivors include, three children, Mary (Robert) Steif, Wausau, Richard Golomski, Madison and Mark (Gail) Golomski, Rhinelander; eight grandchildren, Richard (Autumn) Steif, Kaukauna, Craig (Shannon) Steif, Appleton, Jennifer (Daniel) Krall, Wausau, Karla Steif, Wausau, Adam (Jessica) Golomski, Oregon, Aymee Golomski, Washington, Scott (Brooke) Golomski, Franklin, Wis. and David Golomski, Rhinelander; and one great granddaughter, Annessa Steif.
Besides his parents and wife, Valeria, he was preceded in death by one brother, Frank Golomski; and two sisters, Regina Heisler and Esther Wunsch.
The funeral mass will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, March 5, 2011 at The Church of St. Anne, Wausau. Rev. Steven Brice will preside. Burial will be in Restlawn Memorial Park, Wausau, with full military honors conducted by the Veterans of Foreign Wars Burns Post No. 388, Wausau. Friends may call Saturday from 9:30 a.m. until time of services at the church.
