Charles "Chuck" N. Pierson, 76, of Wausau played his last round and lost a long battle with cancer, at home, on Sunday, January 19, 2014. He and twin sister Ann were born Oct. 22, 1937 in Manitowoc, WI. She did not survive. He was the son of the late Albert and Monica (Heffernan) Pierson. On July 28, 1956 he married Sandra L. Kruzicki in Manitowoc. She survives.
Chuck served in the U.S. Army Reserves from 1956 until 1964 in Manitowoc. There he became an electrical apprentice, journeyman and eventually contractor for Michalek Electric. He went on to be the area distributor for Scott and Fetzer Co./dba Kirby Company of Manitowoc. In 1971 the family moved to the town of Rib Mountain when Chuck became the factory distributor at Kirby Company of Schofield. He was a charter member of the Schofield Optimist Club, a co-owner of American Family Realty and a member of the Wausau Country Club.
In 1984 Chuck and Sandra joined the hotel management division of The Marcus Corp., Milwaukee and worked with an opening team throughout the U.S., helping open a chain of hotels and eventually managing hotels in Cincinnati, OH and Tampa, FL.
The couple settled in Ft. Myers, FL where Chuck worked in sales for United Healthcare and Pierson Insurance in Clearwater, FL. After 26 years in Florida they moved to Appleton, WI and then back to the Wausau area in 2009 where Chuck remained active as an insurance agent.
Among his favorite pastimes he enjoyed golf, boating, water and snow skiing, martial arts and flying airplanes. In his younger years Chuck was a biker and runner.
Survivors include his wife, Sandra, Wausau and six children: Jeanne (Keith) MacDonald, Wausau; Dr. Charles D. Pierson (Dr. Neva Walden), Buffalo, NY; Jayne (Mike) Wolf, Rosholt; Joel Pierson, Wausau; Jon (Elizabeth) Pierson, Seminole, FL; and Jeffrey Pierson (Nicole Brackley), Blackhawk, CO. Nine grandchildren: Bradley (Jamie) MacDonald; Matthew MacDonald; Tyler MacDonald; Kianna Pierson; Melanie (L. J.) Merritt; Zachary, Joshua and Jesse Pierson; and Keegan (Ann) Walden. Eight great grandchildren: Marcus and Jaxson MacDonald; Pierson and Madelyn MacDonald; Skylar Bodinski, Dakota and Eli Merritt; and Delphine Walden. Two sisters: Patricia (Terry) Gill, Green Bay and Mary (Kenneth) Peterson, Manitowoc; one brother-in-law, Kenneth (Sharon) Kruzicki, Manitowoc and nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents he was preceded in death by his mother-in-law and father-in-law, Ann and Leo Kruzicki, and one niece, Lisa Kruzicki.
The funeral mass will be celebrated at Noon on Friday, January 24, 2014 at the Church of St. Anne, Wausau. Rev. Alan T. Burkhardt will preside. Friends may call on Friday from 9:30 a.m. until time of services at the church.
The family wishes to extend sincere thanks to: Dr. Chris Peterson and Dr. Darryl Barton and their most caring staff at Aspirus Oncology Clinic; to the medical staffs in the Aspirus ER and in the Oncology Unit and to all the service units at the amazing Aspirus Hospital; to the wonderful nursing team of Aspirus Hospice Care and to Dr. Rick Reding.
We are very grateful to all the family, friends and golfing buddies who traveled this journey with Chuck until his last days.
