Charles W. Oldenburg Sr.
84, Wausau died Tuesday, September 27, 2011 at his home.
He was born March 13, 1927 in Wausau, son of the late William and Jennie (Lund) Oldenburg. On January 12, 1955 he married Dorothy Jacobson at St. Augustine Church, Rhinelander. She preceded him in death on November 9, 1991.
For more than 25 years Charlie worked at Kraft Foods in Wausau and also at Oldenburg Shoe Store in Wausau. He was a member of the Wausau Emergency Police for over 55 years, serving as their director for 15 years.
Charlie was a 64 year member of the American Legion Montgomery Plant Post #10, Wausau serving as a Past Commander. Some of his favorite pastimes included golfing and taking occasional road trips around Wisconsin just to check things out.
Charlie proudly served his country in the United States Coast Guard from 1945-1946.
Survivors include his two children, Charles (Cathy) Oldenburg, Jr., Wausau and Joan (Randy) Meinholdt, Mosinee, six grandchildren, Rachel, Robert and Amanda Cannon and Jennifer Oldenburg and Hannah and Andrew Meinholdt and one sister, Lois Ramaker, Weston.
Besides his parents and wife he was preceded in death by his daughter Jennifer.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, September 30, 2011 at St. Stephen Lutheran Church, Wausau. The Rev. Gary Froseth will officiate. Burial will be in Restlawn Memorial Park, Wausau where full military honors will be conducted by the American Legion Montgomery Plant Post #10. Friends may call on Friday from 9:00 a.m. until the time of services all at the church.
