Charles Elston Sr.
78, 105 N. Tenth Street, Wausau, died Monday, October 15, 2001 at Community Health Care Wausau Hospital.
Charles was born April 27, 1923 in Scranton, Penn., son of the late Joseph and Margaret (Hannick)Elston. He married Esther 'Tess' Schiefelbein September 21, 1945 in Hawaii. She preceded him in death June 27, 1977.
Charles was employed for 36 years by the former James River Corporation prior to his retirement.
He was a veteran of the United States Navy during WWII and served aboard the U.S.S. Massachusetts. Charles was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Burns Post #388, Wausau.
Grandpa Charlie enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.
Survivors include one son, Charles Elston Jr., Wausau, and his daughter, Jessica(fiance' Brock)Elston, two daughters, Patricia (Del) Riffle, Milwaukee, and their daughter, Amy, Carla (Jeffrey) Borchardt, Wausau, and their children, Dana, Darin and Deana, two great-grandchildren, Alexis and Margaret, two sisters, Margaret Kenny, Long Branch, New Jersey and Lucille Elston, Scranton, Penn., and one brother, LeRoy Elston, Scranton, Penn.
Besides his wife, Esther, and his parents, Charles was preceded in death by one son, Gary, one granddaughter, Nicole, two grandsons, Carl and Andrew, one brother, Lester and one sister, Anna.
Funeral services will be 7 p.m. Thursday, October 18, 2001 at Peterson/Kraemer Funeral Home, 1302 Sixth Street, Wausau. Rev. Mark Lewis will officiate. Friends may call Thursday from 4 p.m. until the time of services at the Sixth Street funeral home.
