She was preceded in death by 2 brothers, Leo and Henry Hoffman and a sister Adeline Goeden.
Cecilia attended LeClair School of Beauty Culture in Milwaukee in 1936. After graduating, she was offered a job in a salon for $12 a week, but rejected the
offer to work at Kresge's dime store in Wausau for the same amount of money. She felt a cosmetologist should make more money, a fortunate decision, since she met Henry at Kresge's. After raising 4 children Cecilia pursued her career as a cosmetologist during a time when women did not work outside the home. A fair and generous woman, Cecilia had an innate business sense. She never let society's preconceived notions of womanhood deter her in realizing her dreams and goals. In 1967 at age 55, she opened Ceil's Beauty Salon with the full support of Henry. She retired in 1984 after 17 years as owner & operator. She maintained her cosmetology license into her late 80s and at that time was among
the oldest licensed cosmetologists in America. Cecilia along with Henry enjoyed hosting many gatherings for family and friends over the years. A few years ago when pointed out she could have been a millionaire if she hadn't spent so much on gatherings, Cecilia commented without pause, "But I wouldn't be as rich as I am today." Cecilia was an inspiration to her family and friends, a shining beacon for all to see.
She was a very active member of the Church of the Resurrection of Wausau for
many years.
The funeral Mass will be celebrated at Noon on Tuesday, December 11, 2012 at the Church of the Resurrection of Our Lord Jesus Christ, Wausau. Rev. Timothy Welles will preside. Burial will be in Restlawn Memorial Park, Wausau. Friends may call Tuesday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of services all at the church.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial is being established.
