Cecilia M. Kania, 81, Wausau, was lifted by the angels to the Lord, with her loved ones by her side, on Saturday February 7, 2009 after a courageous battle with kidney disease at Aspirus Wausau Hospital. Her family takes comfort in knowing that she is no longer suffering and is now with her loving husband and other members who have preceded her in death.
She was born October 29, 1927 in the town of Rietbrock, daughter of the late Joseph and Florence (Milkowski) Pietrowski. On September 23, 1946 she married George Kania, Sr. in Athens. Together they raised five children, Jerry, Corky, Judy, Sandy and Cynthia. He preceded her in death on September 20, 1994. Cecilia was a homemaker whose love of cooking and baking was greatly enjoyed by her family over the years. She loved shopping, dancing, country music, family card games and was a loving wife, mother and grandmother who cherished her husband, children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Often mentioning that she wished she could be a beautician, she loved styling the hair of her three daughters over the years. Cecilia will be greatly missed by her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Survivors include two sons, Gerald J. Kania, Wausau, George "Corky" (Susan) Kania Jr., Wausau, three daughters, Judy A. (Duane) Fritz, Green Bay, Sandy K. (Bob) Rohde, Kronenwetter, Cynthia M. (Lyle) Dahlke, Athens, nine grandchildren, Nick, Shannah, Aaron, Josh, Jody, Jason, Tracy, Danny and Mikey, seven great grandchildren, siblings, Florence (Daniel) Jahnke, Gladyce Kieffer, Theresa (Howard) Hackel, George (Joyce) Pietrowski, Donald (Caroline) Pietrowski, Joseph (Ann) Pietrowski, James (Sharon Pietrowski and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, George, two sisters, Marian and Marcella, two brothers, Frank and Alex Jr., brothers-in-law, Norman and Edward.
The funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. Friday, February 13, 2009, at the Church of the Resurrection of Our Lord Jesus Christ, 621 N. Second Street, Wausau. The Rev. Daniel Hackel will preside. Burial will be in Restlawn Memorial Park, Wausau. Friends may call from 4:00 - 8:00 p.m. Thursday at Peterson/Kraemer Funeral Home, 1302 Sixth Street, Wausau and again from 10:00 a.m. until the time of services Friday at the church. There will be a scripture service at 5:00 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
Cecilia's family would like to extend a special thank you to Dr. Weber, Dr. Blick, Dr. Tom Schneider, the entire staff of the IMC Unit, Chaplain Bob Polesnak and palliative care nurse Tracy Carlson, all of Aspirus Wausau Hospital. Her children would also like to thank all of the family and friends who have supported them through this most difficult time, as well as the Kieffer family.
