Catherine Svetlik

November 13, 1913 — July 27, 2003

Catherine Svetlik 89, formerly of Neillsville, died Sunday, July 27, 2003 at Marywood Convalescent Center, Wausau. She was born November 13, 1913 in McKeesport, Pennsylvania, daughter of Frank and Rose (Hodouschek) Blumenthaler. On June 29, 1939, she married Frank L. Svetlik in Cadott. He preceded her in death on January 25, 1994. Catherine centered her life on her family and friends; she supported her husband in his business and was a wonderful homemaker who made the world's best apple pies. Catherine was a strong and avid bridge player enjoying 54 years in the same bridge club in Neillsville until her move to Wausau in 1996. She loved family gatherings and lived her life with a spirit of joy that touched everyone who knew her. She was a member of the St. Mary Catholic Church, Neillsville serving as secretary of the Christian Mother's Club, president of the Parish Council of Catholic Women, a member of St. Rose's Circle and was a lifelong member of the American Legion Auxiliary, Neillsville. During the past eight years, Catherine lived at the Garden Apartments of Forest Park and moved recently to Marywood Convalescent Center, Wausau. She was a member of The Church of St. Anne, Wausau. Survivors includes two daughters, Jeanne (Ed) Kubicki, Ingleside, Illinois and Carolyn (Harold Ehrenreich) Michalski, Weston; three sons, Gerald (Rita) Svetlik, Sun Lake, Arizona, David (Cheryl) Svetlik, Mosinee and Alan (Penny) Svetlik, Germantown, Maryland; Thaddeus Michalski, Algoma; eleven grandchildren, John (Kathleen) Svetlik, Suzanne (Scott) Hanson, Ian (Jacquie) Kubicki, Marc (Johanna) Kubicki, Jeanne (Craig) Brattebo, Joel & Kathryn Michalski, Laura (Gary) Rose, David (Tina) Williams, John Svetlik and Paul Svetlik; Thirteen great grandchildren, Amanda, Brianna & Cole Hanson, Lane, Adam & Jonathan Kubicki, Gabrielle & Anastasia Kubicki, Wesley, Michael & LeAnna Rose, Terek & Sara Williams; three sisters, Mary Ziehr and Ann (Tony) Svetlik both of Neillsville and Irene Goodman, Canada. Besides her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by two sons, Joseph & John Svetlik and two brothers, Frank & George Blumenthaler. The celebration of her life will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday, August 1, 2003 at St. Mary Catholic Church, Neillsville. Rev. Woodrow Pace will preside. Burial will be in the parish cemetery. Friends may call from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Thursday at the Peterson/Kraemer Funeral Home, 1302 Sixth St., Wausau and again from 9:00 a.m. Friday until the time of services at the church. There will be a 7:00 p.m. Rosary service Thursday evening at the Sixth St. funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Marywood Convalescent Center or the Forest Park Garden Apartments, Wausau. We wish to express our sincere appreciation to the staff of Marywood, who gave our Mother such great care during the past three years. She will be deeply missed by those who loved her.
