Catherine M. Stachovak
85, Wausau, died Sunday, August 2, 2009 at Kennedy Park Medical and Rehabilitation Center, Weston.
She was born January 11, 1924 in Phelps, Wis., daughter of the late Charles and Theresa (Doege) Dunow. On January 13, 1945, she married John Stachovak at St. Michael Catholic Church, Wausau. He preceded her in death on July 2, 1993.
Catherine was employed at the Palm's Supper Club, Schofield for more than 20 years and also worked at other area restaurants. As an active member of the Church of the Resurrection of Our Lord Jesus Christ and a member of the Catholic Daughters, you would often find Catherine in the church kitchen making soups or pies for church functions. She was also involved with the Share Program and volunteered her time to see that others who needed a ride to church got that ride. Catherine was a homemaker and avid gardener, and you would often find her in the kitchen during the fall months, canning pickles and fruits.
She was a person who always opened her heart and doors to others in need, whether it was cooking for them or giving them a place to stay. One never left her home without something she had baked and wished to share with them.
Survivors include, three daughters, Jane (John) Domino, Donna (Fred) Dehnel and Diane (Jack) Carlson; two sons, Gerald (Nery) Stachovak and Michael Stachovak, all of Wausau; six grandchildren, Sherry, Theresa, Ken, Helen, Jennifer and Donald; six great grandchildren, Zofia, Justin, Jesse, Nicholas, Kevin and Tommy; three brothers, Harvey Dunow, Fritz (Jan) Dunow and Bill (Fumie) Dunow; four sisters, Amelia Coons, Josephine (Don) Robida, Bernice Hoff and Paula (Ralph) Arlette; one sister-in-law, Sylvia Stachoviak; and many nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents and husband, John, she was preceded in death by one great grandson, Nathan on January 31, 2008; and one brother, Ollie Dunow.
The funeral mass will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, August 6, 2009 at The Church of the Resurrection of Our Lord Jesus Christ, Wausau. Entombment will be in the Holy Angels Mausoleum, St. Michael Cemetery, Wausau. Friends may call Wednesday from 4:00 until 7:00 p.m. at Peterson/Kraemer Funeral Home, 1302 Sixth Street, Wausau.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff at Kennedy Park Medical and Rehabilitation Center for all the wonderful care and support given to Catherine and her family over the past few years.
