Carol Lynn Smith, born on November 4, 1943, in Waupaca, Wisconsin, passed away peacefully on May 14, 2025, at Aspirus Wausau Hospital, surrounded by her loving family. She was a devoted mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, whose gentle spirit and kind heart left an indelible mark on all who knew her. Carol was preceded in death by her beloved mother and father, Joan and Orville Nelson (Sanders); and her brother, Mark Nelson. She is survived by her brother, James Nelson, her loving daughter, Jennifer Smith Bittner, (David) and her adored granddaughters, Ashley and Jessica. Carol also leaves behind her nieces, Kristi, Kerry, and Lisa, who will forever treasure the memories they shared with her. A true animal lover, Carol found great joy in the companionship of her cats, who brought her comfort and happiness throughout her life. She had a passion for journaling, often expressing her thoughts and reflections on life through her writing. Carol also enjoyed bird watching, finding peace and solace in the beauty of nature, and she had a special fondness for old movies, often reminiscing about the stories and characters that brought her joy. Carol's warmth, compassion, and unwavering love for her family will be deeply missed. Her legacy of kindness and appreciation for the simple pleasures in life will continue to inspire those who were fortunate enough to know her. A private family gathering will be held to honor Carol's life and the cherished memories she leaves behind. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to a local animal shelter in her memory, reflecting her love for all creatures great and small. Rest in peace, dear Carol. Your light will forever shine in our hearts.
