Carol S. Shevlin
66, Wausau died Saturday, January 29, 2011 at her home.
She was born December 30, 1944 in Chippewa Falls, daughter of the late Joseph and Eleanore (Lang) Wellner. On December 30, 1981 she married William E. Shevlin in Wausau. He preceded her in death on April 28, 1998.
Carol grew up in the Boyd area on the family farm prior to her leaving for nursing school. In 1965 she graduated from St. Mary's School of Nursing in Rochester, Minnesota and furthered her education at the University of Eau Claire with a Bachelors Degree, majoring in social work and psychology.
Following graduation she moved to Wausau where she was employed with the Marathon County Health Care Center in the counseling department for more than 25 years. After her retirement she loved to volunteer her time at the Neighbor's Place, a local kennel in Wausau and served senior meals at 500 Grand Avenue.
Carol was also known to be a housemother to many local students from the NTC and international guests from around the world. Some of her favorite pastimes included traveling; domestically and internationally, caring for her dogs and volunteering on many different levels around the Wausau area.
Survivors include two brothers Jim (Lois) Wellner, Boyd and Rick Wellner, Bloomington, MN, one sister, Tammy (Marvin Jr.) Williams and their daughter, Cassie, all of Kronenwetter, two nephews, Gordon (Betty) Wellner and Robert (Michelle Swim) Wellner, both of Boyd and three stepchildren, Debbie (Eric Miller) Shevlin, Wichita, Kansas, Krenza (Richard) Joblonki, Las Vegas and Dan (Ali) Shevlin, Denver, Colorado and seven step grandchildren; along with other relatives and friends.
The funeral mass will be celebrated at Noon Thursday, February 3, 2011 at The Church of St. Anne, Wausau. The Rev. Steven Brice will preside. Friends may call on Thursday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of services all at the church.
In lieu of flowers a memorial has been established in Carol's name.
