Carol J. Potaczek 55, Athens, died Saturday, October 1, 2005 at St. Joseph Hospital, Marshfield. She was born May 13, 1950 in Monroe, daughter of the late Harold and Hazel (Hagen) Gilbertson. On December 14, 1981, she married Theodore "Ted" Potaczek in Freeport, Ill. He preceded her in death on October 4, 2001. Carol and her husband owned and operated the Potaczek Scrap Company, Athens. Besides gardening, sewing and traveling, she enjoyed being with her family and friends. Survivors include two daughters, Michele Potaczek and Melissa Potaczek, both of Athens; one son, Aaron Potaczek, Athens; one sister, Rosie Ryskoski, Medford; two brothers, John (Sherry) Gilbertson, Brodhead and James Gilbertson, Monroe. The funeral mass will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. Friday, October 7, 2005 at St. Anthony Catholic Church, Athens. Rev. Charles Hiebl will preside. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Athens. Friends may call from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Thursday at the Peterson/Kraemer Funeral Home, Athens and again from 10:00 a.m. Friday until the time of services at the church. There will be a parish vigil at 6:30 p.m. Thursday evening at the Athens funeral home. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund is being established. Online condolences at www.petersonkraemer.com
