Carol Ann (Passe) Meyer

April 9, 1943 — March 20, 2025

Carol Ann (Passe) Meyer, 81,  died on Thursday, March 20, 2025, in St. Simons Island, Georgia, where she and her husband, Jim, spent their winters for the past 20 years.

Carol was born on April 9, 1943, in Wabasha, Minnesota, the daughter of Elvira and Edward J. Passe. She attended St. Felix School where she had the unique experience of being taught math by her mother. Following her passion for helping others, she pursued nursing at St. Mary’s School of Nursing in Rochester, Minnesota. After graduation, Carol traveled to Fort St. John, British Columbia, Canada, where she worked in a church mission.

Carol was a devoted wife to James Meyer. Although Carol attended parochial school and Jim attended public school, the two met in the combined school band; Carol played clarinet and Jim played tuba. They married on July 30, 1966, at St. Felix Catholic Church. Carol’s father passed away during her senior year of high school, so she was escorted by her grandfather, William Mars, on her wedding day. After moving to their first home in Winona, Minnesota, their daughter, Mary Ann, was born. The family then moved to Menomonie, Wisconsin, so Jim could complete his degree at UW-Stout. They later settled in Wausau, Wisconsin, where their sons Bill and John were born. She dedicated nearly 30 years of her career to caring for others as a geriatric nurse at Colonial Manor Nursing Home in Wausau.

Carol’s memory will live on through the love she shared with family and friends and the many lives she touched throughout her lifetime. She was a loving mother to Mary Meyer LeBrun (Darrin) of Wausau, Wisconsin; William Meyer of Sheboygan, Wisconsin; and John Meyer (Cindy Heck) of Harshaw, Wisconsin. Carol cherished her role as a grandmother to Matthew LeBrun (Kailey) of Crystal, Minnesota; Sean LeBrun of Minneapolis, Minnesota; Bailey Meyer (Maria) of Sheboygan, Wisconsin; and Seth Meyer (Meghan) of Sheboygan Falls, Wisconsin. She was delighted to become a great-grandmother to Amelia Meyer, daughter of Bailey and Maria. Carol is further survived by her brothers, Edward M. Passe (Luci) and Fredrick M. Passe (Alice) of Wabasha, Minnesota; as well as her sister-in-law, Connie Gehrt of Sandy, Utah.

Faith was a cornerstone of Carol’s life. In addition, she enjoyed the outdoors, which began in her youth with ice skating, swimming, and spending time on the Mississippi River in Wabasha. As she grew older, she found pleasure in reading, gardening, walking, solving jigsaw puzzles, and curling. Carol and Jim spent many years traveling the United States and Canada in their camper vans, often attending Elderhostels, and creating countless memories along the way. Together, they also loved spending time with family and close friends.

A highlight of Carol’s life was spending time supporting her grandsons in their activities. Whether it was soccer, hockey, track, football, golf, or musical performances, she rarely missed an event—home or away—cheering them on with unwavering enthusiasm.

Carol is preceded in death by her parents, Elvira and Edward J. Passe; her great-grandparents, William and Anna Mars; her in-laws, Nelle and Joseph J. Meyer; her sister and brother-in-law, Nancy and Joseph Kaupa; her sister-in-law Sheila Passe, and her brother-in-law, Joseph V. Meyer.

A visitation will be held on Tuesday, April 8, 2025, from 9:30 AM to 11:00 AM at St. Anne Catholic Church, located at 700 West Bridge Street in Wausau, Wisconsin. Rev.
