Carl Behrendt
92, Wausau, died Saturday, January 15, 2011 at Aspirus Wausau Hospital.
He was born November 20, 1918 in the town of Rietbrock, son of the late Louis and Mathilda (Weigand) Behrendt. On April 26, 1941, he married Verna Boelter in Athens. She survives.
In his younger years, Carl owned and operated the former Behrendt Service Station in Athens. In 1950, Carl and his family moved to Benson, Ariz., where he owned and operated an auto salvage yard and Lincoln Lanes bowling alley. In the early 1960's, he moved back to Wausau where he owned and operated a coin shop in both Wausau and Marathon City. In his later years, Carl drove Semi truck for both Crestline Windows and Marmet Corp.
He was a member of the Catholic Knights and a former member of the Wausau-Merrill German Club. Among his favorite pastimes, he enjoyed watching the Chicago Cubs and Nascar.
Survivors include, his wife, Verna Behrendt, Wausau; his daughter, Joan Behrendt, Wausau; one brother, Edward Behrendt, Reserve, N.M.; four sisters-in-law, Genevieve Behrendt, Tucson, Ariz., Annetta Behrendt, Wausau, Linda Brehmer, Ripon and Avila Boelter, Markesan; and one brother-in-law, Donald (Yvonne) Boelter, Oxford, other relatives and friends.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Hubert Behrendt.
The funeral mass will be celebrated at Noon Wednesday, January 19, 2011 at St. Matthew Catholic Church, Wausau. Rev. Robert Thorn will preside. Burial will be in St. Mary Cemetery, Marathon. Friends may call Wednesday from 10:00 a.m. until time of services at the church.
