Brigitte Knickelbein
86, Wausau, died Sunday, November 4, 2012 under the care of Aspirus Comfort Care and Hospice Services at her home.
She was born November 3, 1926 in Wittlich Krs. Trier, Germany, daughter of the late Max Sr. and Anni (Sartor) Krahnke. As a young girl, Brigitte and her family moved to Meisenheim, Germany, where she attended school. She worked as a travel agent and a nanny. Brigitte met the love of her life, Paul Knickelbein in Germany while he was serving in the United States Army. They were married in New York City on March 16, 1954.
They moved to Milwaukee, where she worked for the Oster Company, and in the early 1970's, they moved to Wausau, where she worked for the former Fuller Brush Company, AAA Wisconsin and retired from Bankers Life and Casualty Company.
Among her favorite pastimes, she enjoyed sewing and flower gardening and was affectionately known in her neighborhood as the "flower lady".
Survivors include, her husband, Paul Knickelbein, Wausau; two sisters-in-law, Judy (Tony) Cabarles, Chicago and Barbara (Robert) Hagstrom, Bossier City, La; and many friends.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by one brother, Max Krahnke Jr.
Funeral services will be held at 6:30 p.m. on Friday, November 9, 2012 at Peterson/Kraemer Funeral Home, 3400 Stewart Avenue, Wausau. Rev. Dan Crosby will officiate. Friends may call on Friday from 4:30 p.m. until time of services at the funeral home. Burial will be on Saturday at the Friedenshain Cemetery, town of Berlin.
