Betty L. Brandt

Betty L. Brandt 98, Wausau, formerly of Athens, died Saturday, February 09, 2008 at Our House, Wausau, under the care of Aspirus Comfort Care and Hospice Services. She was born August 9, 1909 in the town of Rib Falls, daughter of the late Frederick and Bertha (Ristau) Hoeft. Betty married August Brandt in the town of Hamburg. He preceded her in death in 1945. In her younger years, Betty farmed in the Athens area, then she was employed as a Licensed Practical Nurse for almost ten years. Following her retirement, she owned and operated the former Knit-Kraft Shop in Wausau for 20 years. Among her many interests, she enjoyed knitting, gardening and traveling. Survivors include, one daughter, Carol Giese, Wausau; three granddaughters, Kathy (Tom) Mason, Wausau, Karen Giese, Wausau and Sandy (Glen) Haas, Weston; two great granddaughters, Emily and Olivia Haas; one foster daughter, Mary Lou (Erich) Bahr, Elmwood, Wis; and many nieces and nephews. Besides her parents and husband, August, she was preceded in death by her son-in-law, Robert Giese; her dear friend, Helen Kleinschmidt; and eleven brothers and sisters, Freddy, Woodrow, Ervin, Harry, Lawrence, Carl, Reinhold, Goldie, Viola, Dorothy and Chester. Funeral services will be 1:00 p.m. Monday, February 11, 2008 at Peterson/Kraemer Funeral Home, 3400 Stewart Avenue, Wausau. Rev. Daniel Sire will officiate. Burial will be in Athens Lutheran Cemetery. Friends may call Monday from 11:00 a.m. until time of services at the Stewart Avenue funeral home.
