Bertha J. Rice

Bertha J. Rice 73, Wausau, died Sunday, September 15, 2002 at her home under the care of Comfort Care and Hospice Services. She was born November 19, 1928 in Fairchild, daughter of the late Andrew and Amanda (Kottke) Olson. On January 28, 1946, she married Harold Rice in Eau Claire. He preceded her in death on January 21, 1983. Bertha was a cook for many years at many area Wausau restaurants. Among her favorite things to do were fishing, crocheting, tending to her garden and flowers and she was an avid Packer fan. Bertha was a devoted mother and grandmother; she enjoyed attending her grandchildren's many activities. She is survived by her children, Jim (Barb) Rice, Aniwa, LeRoy Rice, Candy (Scott) Tessmer, Randy (Jennie Lashua) Rice, Deb (Mike Ahearn) Rice, Tim (Deb) Rice and Jeff (Jeanne) Rice all of Wausau and Sara (David) Farrar, Rothschild; 25 grandchildren; 23 great grandchildren; six sisters, Laura Obermier, Wausau, Almeda Atheron, Alma Center, Esther (Alfred) Knuth, Dorothy (Frank) Pozago all of Fairchild, Ida (Bob) Sessions, Hamburg, Betty (Ray) Pickett, Wausau and Patricia (Duane) Sessions, Marathon; one brother, David (Carolyn) Olson, Fairchild; one daughter-in-law, Tootie Rice, Wausau. Besides her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by two sons, Sonny and Andy Rice and two sisters and 4 brothers. Funeral services will be 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, September 18, 2002 at the Peterson/Kraemer Funeral Home, 3400 Stewart Ave., Wausau. Burial will be in the Restlawn Memorial Park, Wausau. Friends may call on Tuesday from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. and again on Wednesday from Noon until the time of services all at the Stewart Ave. funeral home.
