Bernice Helen Springer, 92, of Wausau, passed away peacefully at Mount View Care Center on Monday October 20, 2014.
She was born to Roman and Helen (Leonard) Wisneski in Wausau on January 18, 1922. Bernice went to school, worked, and lived in Wausau and the surrounding area most of her life. She married her husband Francis on May 9, 1942 at Saint Mary Catholic Church in Marathon City. They enjoyed 60 years together until his death on October 28, 2002.
Bernice was a homemaker most of her life, raising five children and helping with the family farms that they owned. When they lived on a farm or in the country, Bernice loved to garden, pick wild berries, and take long walks in the woods. She and Francis enjoyed traveling and taking sightseeing trips. An excellent cook, she loved to bake. She also enjoyed knitting, crochet, crossword puzzles, playing bingo, watching the Packers and going to Packer parties at Dales Weston Lanes (where she loved the bloody marys) even though she said she didn't understand football.
Bernice is survived by five children: Roger (Louise) of Wausau; Patricia Springer of Fayetteville, North Carolina; Kathleen (Will) Guillaume of Kenosha, Wisconsin; John (Kathy) of Crete, Nebraska; and Richard of Merrill, Wisconsin. She is also survived by siblings Robert of Lubbock, Texas, Patrick (Rita) of Wausau, Thomas of Lubbock, Texas, William (Mary) of Phoenix Arizona, and Natalie Meilahn of Mosinee. She also leaves behind 12 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren, and one great-great grandson, plus many dear relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 60 years, Francis; her parents; two brothers Valerian and Rev. Father John; her sister Doris; a dear grandchild Christopher Springer and his mother, daughter-in-law Patricia.
