Bernice Kaye

Bernice Kaye, 89, Wausau, died Monday May 9, 2016 at Aspirus Wausau Hospital. She was born February 3, 1927, in Custer, daughter of the late Joseph and Agnes Megal. On April 28, 1951, she married Dr. Frank Kaye at St. Mary Catholic Church, Fancher. He preceded her in death October 16, 1999. Mom worked very hard to provide us with a loving home. She always loved gardening. We had a large garden and mom did a lot of canning. We had many flowers in the yard which she tended to. After dad died, mom worked as a groundskeeper at the townhouses where she resided until it became too hard due to arthritis. When she moved into Garden Apts. assisted living she took it upon herself to take care of the grounds by pulling weeds and watering plants. She also took care of the many indoor plants during the winter. Mom loved watching the many birds that came to her feeders. Mom loved music and could play the piano by ear which she did right up to the end. She shared her love of music by having us all learn piano. She was a member of St. Michael's church choir until 2 years ago when her health declined. She was an avid fisherwoman and she was on a bowling league most of her life. Survivors include her children, Jeffrey (Debra) Kaye, Excelsior, Minn., Allyson (Michael) Wenzlick, Green Bay, Warren (Jennifer) Kaye, Denver, Colo., She had 6 grandchildren - Jennifer, Anne, Ryan, Autumn, Bria & Sydney and 2 great-grandchildren - Henry and Cora. Besides her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Vanessa Travers, 10 brothers and 2 sisters. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. Monday May 16, 2016 at St. Michael Catholic Church, Wausau. Rev. William Grevatch will preside. Entombment will be in Memorial Chapel Mausoleum, Restlawn Memorial Park, Wausau. Friends may call on Monday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of services at the church.
