Bernadine "Bernie" E. Hrdina, 81, Wausau, died Thursday, June 26, 2014 at Benedictine Living Community after a long illness with Crohn's disease and kidney failure.
She was born July 8, 1932 in Two Rivers, daughter of the late Bernard and Emma (Boushek) Sekadlo. On June 30, 1951 she married George Hrdina in Two Rivers. He survives.
After raising her children, Bernie worked in childcare at the YMCA for many years and enjoyed seeing the children she cared for "all grown up". She enjoyed knitting and made many special items for her family including sweaters and Christmas stockings. She also had a talent for coordinating clothing outfits for her many young grand and great grand children. Bernie and George enjoyed attending basketball, football, baseball, softball, volleyball, cross country, track, soccer and ice skating events that their grandchildren participated in. Bernie also enjoyed watching the Brewers, Packers and Badgers.
Survivors include her husband, George Hrdina, Wausau; children, Terry (DiAnn) Hrdina, Wausau, Trudy (James) Emison, Bells, Tenn., Mike (Sara) Hrdina, Wausau and Tammy (Chip) Hayden, LaCrosse; grandchildren, Chad (Michael), Kelli (Torrion), Vicki (Steve), Brenda (Greg), Jodi, Eddie, Jessica, Ellie, Amanda, Alex, Emily and David; step grandchildren, Randy (Tammy), Brad (Jenny) and Angela (Charles); great-grandchildren, Tahlia, Brooklyn, Torrion, Breyden, Dylan, Norah and Lyla; many step great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Gladdy Sekadlo, Sturgeon Bay, and many other relatives and friends.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Wayne Sekadlo and a brother-in-law, Lewis Hrdina and his wife Elaine.
A memorial service will be at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, July 1, 2014 at Peterson/Kraemer Funeral Home, 3400 Stewart Avenue, Wausau. Rev. Alan Burkhardt will officiate. Friends may call Tuesday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of services at the Stewart Avenue funeral home.
