Benjamin F. Schlei
97, Wausau, passed away Saturday, October 27, 2007 at Harmony Terrace Court, Wausau.
He was born October 2, 1910 in Oconomowoc, son of the late Louis and Amelia Schlei.
For 42 years, Ben worked at the former Marathon Corp., Rothschild as a hydronic engineer. He also built many homes and was an accomplished mechanic. Following retirement, he and his wife, Sophie (Tyskiewicz) Schlei, moved to Bradenton, Fla. where they lived for 32 years and celebrated 76 years of marriage. Sophie passed away on May 9, 2000. Ben moved back to Wisconsin in 2001, where he lived for the past six years. He was an avid Lionel train collector.
Ben was a charter member of St. Peter Evangelical Lutheran Church, Schofield and also a member of 32 years at Peace Lutheran Church, Bradenton, Fla.
Survivors include, one son, Robert (Lou Ann) Schlei, Wausau; one daughter, Mary Ann Steckling, Eugene, Ore.; six grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren; and two great great grandchildren.
Private funeral services will be held at a later date.
