Beatrice C. Schauer

April 9, 1917 — September 26, 2013

Beatrice "Bea" C. Schauer, 96 passed away peacefully Thursday, September 26, 2013 at Aspirus Wausau Hospital. Bea was born April 9, 1917 in Thorp. She was the daughter of the late Anton Velcheck and Katherine (Boehler) Velcheck. She married Albert W. Schauer in Lebanon, PA in 1944. He preceded her in death May 18, 1977. She graduated from St. Mary's Nurse's training school in 1939 and served as a surgical and floor RN at Wausau St. Mary's hospital for 20-years. After taking time off to raise her children, she returned to nursing in 1972 at Wausau Hospital North and then Wausau Aspirus Hospital. In 1991 she became one of the first Hospice nurses at the newly established Hospice Comfort Care facility where she served for 12-years until her retirement from nursing in 1983. From 1977 through 2002 she would travel every Monday to the St. Anthony Retreat Center in Marathon to voluntarily clean rooms and make beds. Up to the time of her passing she served many years as a Hospice Volunteer with Aspirus completing bereavement cards for families who lost loved ones. Over the years, she enjoyed time with her grandchildren, playing bridge with many kind and accommodating friends, reading and watching the Brewers. She liked to polka (when the opportunity presented itself) and her coffee (from early childhood on). She also remained active in the Catholic Women's Club. Besides her husband and parents she was preceded in death by three brothers: Arnold, Clarence and Byron. Bea had no sisters but since her early nursing days she was always grateful to be considered as one of the sisters of the Meuret family. She is survived by four children: Richard (Kathryn), Wausau, Kathleen, Tomahawk, Robert (Nancy), Weston, and John, Wausau. Two grandchildren: Brett, Tampa, FL and Lindsay (Noah) Will, Minneapolis, MN. One great grandchild: Nicholas, Tampa, FL. Her family would also like to acknowledge: her late companion Ross Donehower, 2005, who was a good friend to her for many years following her husband Albert's passing; The staff at Railway special assisted living facility that provides care for her daughter Kathleen; The clergy and staff at St. Michaels and at St. Anthony Spirituality Center in Marathon; and her many friends, former nursing companions, Priest's and Sister's who have grace her life. Her life on earth was one dedicated to serving people. She was a blessing to us in the role of Daughter, Sister, Wife, Mother, Caregiver, Companion and Friend. Her service now is solely to our Creator, and in that we can all be comforted and encouraged. The funeral mass will be celebrated at Noon, Wednesday, October 2, 2013 at St. Michael Catholic Church, Wausau. The Rev. William Grevatch will preside. Burial will be in Restlawn Memorial Park, Wausau. Friends may call on Wednesday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of services all at the church. In lieu of flowers a memorial has been established in Bea's name. Peterson/Kraemer Funeral Home, 1302 Sixth Street, Wausau is in charge of arrangements.
