Avis G. Schmitt
80, 1512 Smith Street, Schofield, died Thursday December 12, 2002 at Kennedy Park Medical and Rehabilitation Center, Weston.
She was born February 18, 1922 in Hutchinson, Minn., daughter of the late John and Catherine (Terrio) Smith. On May 20, 1943 she married Winfield Schmitt at St. Mary Catholic Church, Wausau. He survives.
Prior to her retirement, Avis had been employed at GTE, Wausau. She was a member of the VFW Auxiliary Burns Post #388, Wausau. An avid card player, Avis had been a member of a Bridge Club for over fifty years. She also enjoyed knitting, crocheting, baking, bingo and was especially fond of her dog, Cuddles.
Survivors include her husband, Winfield, seven children, Richard (Diane) Schmitt, Corpus Christi, Tex., Charles (Karen) Schmitt, Phoenix, Ariz., Daniel (Kathy) Schmitt, Wilton, Calif., Sharon (David) Fritz, Wausau, Curt Schmitt, North Richland Hills, Tex., Timothy (Gwen) Schmitt, Chester, Vir., Michael Schmitt, Christopher Creek, Ariz., a sister, Katie (Jim) LeClair, Two Rivers, 15 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers, John 'Bud', Edward and Curtis Smith and a great-grandson, Tyler Linke.
The funeral mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday December 17, 2002 at St. Therese Catholic Church, Rothschild. Burial will be in Restlawn Memorial Park, Wausau. Friends may call on Monday from 4 - 8 p.m. at the Peterson/Kraemer Funeral Home, 1302 6th St., Wausau and again on Tuesday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of services at the church. There will be a VFW Auxiliary Memorial Service at 6:30 p.m. Monday followed by a parish rosary service all at the Sixth Street funeral home.
