Audrey M. Gilchrist
81, Rib Mountain, died Monday, June 22, 2009 under the care of Aspirus Comfort Care and Hospice Services at Wellington Place, Rib Mountain.
Audrey was born September 16, 1927 in Chicago, Ill., daughter to the late Alex and Minnie (Peterson) Cook. She married Jack Gilchrist in Chicago, Ill. and he preceded her in death in January 1979.
In 1967 Jack bought a dairy farm and moved Audrey and the children to Marathon. In 1974 they moved back to Chicago and after Jack's death Audrey went to work for Central Steel and Wire Co. until her retirement.
After retirement she enjoyed traveling with family and friends to Alaska, Hawaii, Florida, Germany and Cancun. Among other interests, she enjoyed reading, bird watching and taking walks. Her greatest joy was spending time with her family and friends.
Survivors include her two sons, Roy Gilchrist of Wausau and John (JoAnn) Gilchrist of Marathon; four grandchildren, Rick (Julia) Brzezinski, Julie (Chris) Klee, Jill (Michael) Arendt and Justin Gilchrist; and three great grandchildren, Nichole Brzezinski, Jessica Brzezinski and Allison Klee.
Besides her parents and husband Jack, Audrey was preceded in death by her daughter Gail Wolf, seven sisters and three brothers.
Private family services will be held on Friday, June 26, 2009.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Aspirus Comfort Care and Hospice Services.
