Armella M. Adams

Armella M. Adams, 85, Athens, was a loving wife, caring mother, grandmother, great grandmother and great-great grandmother. Armella died peacefully at her home, as was her greatest wish, on Tuesday, January 31, 2012. She was born August 3, 1926 in Marathon and grew up in that area, daughter of the late John and Helen (Sailer) Rader. On November 13, 1943, she married Bernard C. Adams at St. Anthony Catholic Church, Athens and throughout her life, she lovingly cared for her husband, Bernie for 65 years. He preceded her in death on June 10, 2008. Bernie and Armella worked side-by-side on the farm their entire life and retired in 1999 and moved to Athens. Living in their new home in Athens brought them both great joy. She was active with the Athens Card Club and with many church activities. Armella greatly enjoyed going to the Athens CafAC. for lunch. Among her favorite pastimes, she loved cooking for her family and was a wonderful baker. She also enjoyed sewing, patching the family clothing, knitting, crocheting, quilting and attending to her huge garden. Survivors include, two daughters, Diane (Ken) Ligman, Weston and Judi (Eugene) Hoffman, Knoxville, Tenn.; one daughter-in-law, Linda Adams, Athens; seven grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; and two great-great grandchildren. Besides her parents and her husband, Bernard, she was preceded in death by one son, John Adams; one son-in-law, David Loos; and eight brothers and sisters. The funeral mass will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, February 4, 2012 at St. Anthony Catholic Church, Athens. Rev. Charles Hiebl will preside. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Athens. Friends may call Saturday from 10:00 a.m. until time of services at the church. There will be a rosary service at 9:30 a.m. Saturday at the church for anyone who would like to attend.
