Arlon R. Schmidt

Arlon R. Schmidt, 85, town of Stettin, died Thursday, December 7, 2017 at his home. He was born December 18, 1931 on the family farm, son of the late Walter and Lydia (Krueger) Schmidt. On June 7, 1952, he married the love of his life, Delphine Steidinger at Trinity Ev. Lutheran Church, Stettin. She preceded him in death on September 16, 2017. Arlon attended Marathon High School and following his marriage to Delphine, they worked together on their dairy farm in Stettin and grew ginseng for almost 40 years. Among his favorite pastimes, he enjoyed playing sheepshead, drinking a cold Miller Beer and dining out with Delphine. Arlon loved logging and working in the woods and spent many peaceful hours in his Caterpillar. Arlon was very faithful and generous in many ways and was a lifelong member of Trinity Ev. Lutheran Church. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather and will be deeply missed. Survivors include one daughter, Candyce (Waine) Krautkramer, Marathon; three granddaughters, Shannon (Joel) Berens, Marathon, Holly Springfield, Memphis, Tenn. and Rachel (Ryan) Erdman, Eagan, Minn.; six great-grandchildren, Sophia, Owen, Reece, Vance, Vivian and Jordy; and two sisters-in-law, Bernice Steidinger, Marathon and Angie Schmidt, Wausau. Besides his parents and wife Delphine, he was preceded in death by one brother, Orville Schmidt; and two sisters, Adeline Radtke and Murella Goetsch. Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, December 11, 2017 at Trinity Ev. Lutheran Church, town of Stettin. Rev. Philip Bogen will officiate. Burial will be in the Stettin Christian Cemetery. Friends may call on Sunday from 4:00 until 8:00 p.m. at Peterson/Kraemer Funeral Home, Marathon and again on Monday from 10:00 a.m. until time of services at the church. There will be a prayer service at 7:30 p.m. Sunday evening at the funeral home. Memorials may be directed to Trinity Ev. Lutheran Church, Stettin.
