Arliss E. Jenks,
83, Wausau, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, friend and neighbor, died Monday, September 5, 2005 at Aspirus Wausau Hospital.
She was born September 21, 1921 in Rib Falls, daughter of the late Leroy and Leona (Weber) Yeager. On August 2, 1947, she married Arnold W. Jenks in Rib Falls. He survives.
Arliss found fulfillment in the role of homemaker and teacher. She worked in the field of education, spending early years as a teacher and later in support services.
Arliss began her life in the farming community of Rib Falls, later moving to the town of Maine. After her marriage to Arnold, they continued farming in the town of Maine. She was active in all areas of life on the dairy farm, including working in the fields, caring for animals, all while maintaining the home.
In later years, she retired from farming, moving to Wausau where she remained until her death.
In many wonderful ways she was the center of her family, the one who held the family together. Arliss was the driving force in all family activities.
Her family will especially remember her recognition of the importance of history and her strong value system including work ethics and education. Family activities brought her joy. We will treasure the warmth and love she shared when she baked bread and rolls. Arliss spent many hours with her grandchildren reading, making cookies and playing games. She instilled the value of education in her children and grandchildren.
She carried that same commitment to the care of others in her neighborhood and church. Her thoughts were always with the needs of others above her own.
Among her many interests, she enjoyed gardening, reading, needlework and sharing stories.
Arliss was active in her church. She will be remembered as a member of Hilltoppers and the prayer chain. Most certainly, the parishioners will remember receiving her birthday and anniversary cards. She supported various educational activities of the church.
She will be missed by all.
Survivors include her husband, Arnold, Wausau; three children, Richard (Mary) Jenks, Mukwonago, Mary (John) Grossmeier, Hannibal, Mo. and Larry (Vicky) Jenks, Schofield; seven grandchildren, Kate and Christopher Jenks, Mukwonago, Sarah Grossmeier, Kansas City, Mo., Gregory Grossmeier, Minneapolis, Minn., and Krista, Kesa and Kortney Jenks, Schofield.
