Arletta M. Kamke, 77, Schofield, died peacefully Thursday, August 28, 2014 under the care of the Palliative Care Unit at Aspirus Wausau Hospital. Family and friends were with her until the end.
She was born January 26, 1937 in Wausau, daughter of the late Leonard and Hattie (Borchardt) Kasten. On June 4, 1960 Arletta and Merlyn Kamke were united in marriage by Pastor G.C. Marquardt at St. Peter Lutheran Church.
After graduating from D.C. Everest High School in 1955, Arletta worked at Intercity State Bank and with her brother at Dave Kasten Motors before settling down to take care of her family and home. Among her many hobbies, she enjoyed walking at the mall with Merlie, singing in the choir at church, shopping (especially for shoes), and cleaning everything from her home, Church, and even her family's clothes (which Kirk and Shawn have come to appreciate). When her physical health began to decline, there were few things that could brighten her day more than having her grandson's two puppies greet her at home, where she enjoyed spoiling them with treats. She will be missed by all and remembered for her caring personality and willingness to help others.
Survivors include her husband, Merlyn; one son, Kirk (Connie Diers) Kamke, Wausau; one grandson, Shawn Kamke, Weston; brothers, Dave (Gene) Kasten, Weston, Jim (Judi) Kasten, Wausau; one sister, Bonnie (Lyle) Nass, Green Bay; sister-in-law Diane Kasten, Weston; along with many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother Ken.
Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, September 3, 2014 at St. Peter Evangelical Lutheran Church, 1351 South Grand Avenue, Schofield. Rev. Walter Davidson and Rev. Jeffrey Mahnke will officiate. Burial will be in Pine Grove Cemetery. Friends may call Tuesday from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and again on Wednesday from 9:00 a.m. until the time of services all at St. Peter Evangelical Lutheran Church.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to St. Peter Evangelical Lutheran Church, Schofield, where Arletta enjoyed helping with Vacation Bible School, meeting with the LL Club, and volunteering at many church events.
The family wishes to extend their appreciation to the staff in the Intensive Care Unit and Palliative Care Unit at Aspirus Wausau Hospital for their loving care of Arletta.
